I went this route for a few reasons:. I was left with a brand new subpanel in the basement which I felt was ultimately cleaner and easier for me to tackle than the existing subpanel. In my basement I used two different wiring gauges, 12 and 14, which deliver 20 and 15 amps respectively.
The smaller the gauge the larger the wire, hence the more amps it can deliver to your electrical run.

Inspectors like to see 12 wiring used for plugs because they can handle a larger load and are less likely to pop your breaker or cause issues. I then make a run from one of my plugs up to the light switch. Because 14 gauge wire is thinner and easier to work with, why not just use 14 to go up to the light from the switch?
This is considered a no-no and your inspector will not approve this. Switches and plugs will make up part of your basement electrical runs, while lights will make up the other part.

How a 2-Way Switch Works. The power source is coming in from the left. Notice the black wire is the only wire that we are controlling through the 2-way switch. When the left switch is toggled, it connects to the upper circuit and now the circuit is open at the right switch which turns off the light. The best way to simplify wiring a 3-way switch is this. By looking at the moving 3-way switch above, the hot black wire coming from the power source will always attach to the common screw on the 1st switch in the circuit. Then the traveler wires are connecting both switches and it does matter which wire goes to which traveler screw.
Now with that said, just look at the switch again and look at the circuit. There you have it, 3-way switch wiring simplified.

Additional listings will be partial views of the component. Not all components are used on all models. All components will have a partial view in Ground Distribution and Power Distribution. Data Link Connectors show connecting circuits between modules. Alternate names for components may be listed in wiring diagram component locations tables.
